Pricing data for IESO (Ontario) is now live!
It’s now been more than a year since Ontario’s market refresh took place, changing the way electricity is priced and scheduled across the province. One of the biggest changes was IESO launching a location-based pricing market to help with regional congestion.
While we’ve supported a wide range of IESO data on the Erode platform for the past year, including historical generation, we’ve always dreamed of going bigger. In addition to all of the extensive generation data from IESO available through the Erode platform, we’ve recently added zonal pricing for IESO. This brings the total number of energy datasets available for Ontario to nearly 500.

Wildfires continue to burn in Ontario 🔥

It’s been a tough year for wildfires in Ontario, with over 100 fires currently active across the province as shown in the latest official map. With smoke from many of these fires drifting south, air quality has deteriorated across southern Ontario, the Great Lakes, and parts of the northeastern United States, reminding us that the impacts of wildfire extend well beyond the area being burned.

After the controversy surrounding the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where the tournament was moved from its traditional June/July window for the first time in 92 years due to extreme summer heat, many expected North America to offer a return to more familiar playing conditions. Instead, heat became a major discussion for the 2026 tournament, with temperatures high enough that FIFA mandated hydration breaks.
European grids feels the heat 🇪🇺🥵
Europe's heatwaves have squeezed electricity supply and demand at the same time.
Heatwaves across Europe and the UK put the power system under pressure from both ends. As temperatures exceeded 40°C, air-conditioning demand soared. French electricity consumption approached 58.5 GW, among the highest summer levels in recent years.
These high temperatures also drove high river temperatures, forcing nuclear curtailments. By mid-July, EDF had curtailed 6.4 GW of nuclear output across multiple reactors to comply with water temperature regulatory limits.
