We know some of you might be sick of hearing about snowpack, but it’s one of the biggest stories in the energy world this year.

The winter has been a wild ride for precipitation across North America. Many regions in the western US are seeing snowpack sitting well below average for this time of year, with many regions experiencing record-breaking lows. However, things really change in the vicinity of the Canada/US border, where some basins to the north aren’t looking as bad!

Southern Alberta has been top of mind recently, where mountain snowpack provides everything from irrigation, to drinking water, and hydropower generation. We took a look at the South Saskatchewan and Bow River basins to see how things are differing in these adjacent watersheds.

While high elevation snowpack remains in both, things for the Bow River are currently looking much better than in it’s southern neighbour.

Nova Scotia nearly doubled their solar capacity in 2025, quietly turning rooftops into miniature power plants. The solar push comes as a direct response to both the province’s goals for renewable energy and Nova Scotia’s broader efforts to reduce it’s reliance on fossil fuels. While the growth in solar capacity is a positive sign for Nova Scotia’s energy future, it also requires a comprehensive approach to infrastructure, energy storage and grid management. By integrating solar power into the business sector, Nova Scotia has positioned itself as a key player in green energy transition. As more companies follow suit, the challenge will be ensuring that solar energy remains a reliable and cost-effective option.

As many states continue to push forward with ambitious clean energy goals, data centres are quickly emerging as an unexpected roadblock. In Nevada, affordable land and favourable tax conditions have made the state appealing to data centre developers, making it one of the country's fastest-growing hubs for AI computing. The surge in demand has forced NV Energy to revise its energy forecast upward by 47%, where despite a voter-approved constitutional amendment requiring 50% renewable power by 2030, the utility now expects to miss that target. Can the clean energy movement keep up with the digital demand?
